Pollinator Habitat
Partnership
Pollinators are a vital part of our ecosystem. However, habitat loss, degradation, and fragmentation are major threats to their survival. By focusing on strategic habitat management, we can support pollinator health and contribute to more biodiverse ecosystems.
Founding the Partnership
How It All Started
GRPHP started with a question: What organizations are working towards pollinator and habitat conservation in the St. Louis region, and how can information be shared with them? The St. Louis region has numerous local, non-profit, state, and federal organizations that are doing incredible work supporting pollinators, through education, outreach, habitat restoration/enhancement, and research.” So how can communication be improved amongst these groups– and the public–to share ideas and resources?
Several local organizations gathered in May 2023 to discuss their needs and challenges. Recognizing that many of these organizations were facing similar challenges, a partnership was formed to concentrate efforts in compiling and disseminating information, addressing shared challenges, and achieving organizational goals. This partnership is now known as the Great Rivers Pollinators Habitat Partnership.
Our Vision
GRPHP envisions a future where pollinators flourish in healthy, biodiverse ecosystems that benefit our local communities. By fostering the collaboration between organizations and individuals interested in pollinators, we aim to unite those who would contribute to furthering our mission. We strive to utilize our resources to overcome challenges and achieve shared goals of supporting pollinators and native habitats.
Our Goals
To support our mission and vision, GRPHP has identified the key goals that guide our efforts. These goals reflect our commitment to habitat conservation, community engagement, and scientific research, all aimed at creating sustainable environments where pollinators can thrive.
Habitat Management
Enhance, create, restore, and preserve pollinator-friendly habitats by connecting local, state, and federal organizations and individuals to support native species and biodiverse ecosystems.
Education and Outreach
Raise awareness about the importance of pollinators and the preservation of their habitats through nature-based engagement, volunteer opportunities, educational resources, and community events.
Urban Landscaping
Promote the integration of pollinator-friendly practices–such as sustainable landscaping or green infrastructure–into urban spaces to create native habitats.
Research and Monitoring
Advance scientific knowledge by engaging in research and community science initiatives to monitor pollinator health, track population trends, and assess habitat health.
Get Involved
Join us in protecting and sustaining native habitats and pollinators that contribute to our environment and food systems through community and science-based efforts. Together we can make a lasting impact on the future of pollinators in the Great Rivers region. Learn more about how to Get Involved.
